Charlotte is a German doctor in Brussels . She is married to an architect and mother of a small son. Charlotte rents an apartment to meet with a few attractive men from the circle of her patients for sex. At the same time, she leads an intimate marriage and family life. The sexual life with her husband Max exudes security and trust. The son reads them as bedtime story the tale The Girl Without Hands of Brothers Grimm before.When she meets one of the chosen patients and wants to get her closer, Charlotte suffers a nervous breakdown. She strikes the man and finally collapses.

Charlotte's affairs are now known. She loses her position as a doctor, and her marriage is out of control. Together with her husband she tries to save the marriage with a therapy. In her search for reasons for her behavior, however, she differs questions. Two years later the family after India pulled where Max works as an architect.Twins are born, and family happiness seems to have been recovered. But Max can not keep his doubts against his wife.The mistrust remains, and he follows her on her morning walks.
